Making complex issues understandable
The advent of the new pension system presents major challenges as well as opportunities, according to Tim van Dijk: “The Netherlands is moving towards a new pension system, leading to major changes. As a result, Pensioenfonds PGB is facing a complex transition. It is important to seize opportunities to lower costs, reduce complexity and increase trust during this time of change. As a board, we need to be able to explain our decisions in an understandable way. This is sometimes quite a challenge, but we owe it to our participants, pension recipients and employers.”
Motivation to help people
Tim van Dijk’s roots are in the pension world. He currently works in the pensions team at FNV and, on the recommendation of FNV, has also been appointed as a board member of Pensioenfonds Horeca & Catering and Pensioenfonds Rijn- en Binnenvaart. Prior to this, he gained ten years of experience at pension administrator PGGM, the last five of which as a pension lawyer. He first started at PGGM as a customer service adviser while studying Law and it was there that he developed an interest in pensions. At PGGM, he gained extensive experience in customer contact, from first-line questions to complex cases. He is still reaping the benefits of this. “I find it rewarding to be able to guide people through complicated matters. This is also something I experience when I volunteer at the Legal Advice Centre in Zeist. There, I provide legal advice at weekly consultation hours. All kinds of legal issues may arise, from disputes with neighbours to problems with the government. I realise that people sometimes get bogged down in the complexity of society, it's often so complicated. I am grateful for the opportunity to lend them a hand by providing guidance and explanations. This is where I certainly see parallels with my board duties at Pensioenfonds PGB.”
Tim van Dijk (1987) lives with his girlfriend in Driebergen. The area around Driebergen has beautiful mountain bike trails. In his spare time, Tim likes to ride his mountain bike. “It’s a wonderful way to clear your head when you are indoors so often”, according to Tim.
