What do I do as an employer?

The new pension rules came into effect on 1 July 2023. We expect our schemes to change on 1 January 2027. This means that from then on, your employees will accrue pension according to the new pension rules. What you need to do for this and what choices you can make depends on your affiliation with Pensioenfonds PGB.

Social partners make agreements about the new pension

Are you an employer in a compulsory affiliated sector? In that case, the social partners will make agreements about the new pension at Pensioenfonds PGB. They draw up a plan for the entire sector and make choices for the new pension. We expect the basic schemes for all sectors to be known in July 2024.

Choices for the entire sector

Social partners make choices about the new pension. They decide on:

  • the level of the premium
  • the percentage of the partner’s pension
  • any compensation for certain age groups

The type of contribution scheme has already been determined. Everyone will have a solidary contribution scheme. The basic principle is also that all accrued pensions will be transitioned (converted). Only in exceptional cases can the sector choose not to transition the accrued pensions.

Find out more about the choices social partners make for your sector in the brochure choices for your new pension scheme (Dutch only). It also contains more information about the solidary contribution scheme.

Get started with additional agreements or dispensation

If you have additional agreements for pension or dispensation, you must arrange something for the new pension yourself. What you have to do depends on your personal situation.

  • Do you have additional pension agreements at Pensioenfonds PGB?

Then you make new additional agreements with us yourself. This can be done after the new basic scheme is known (probably summer 2024). We will then let you know what you need to do to make your choices for the new additional agreements. You make these choices (together with your employee representation) before 1 December 2024.

Employers with a voluntary scheme: you make your own agreements about the new pension

As an employer with a voluntary scheme at Pensioenfonds PGB, you make your own agreements about the new pension. You make these agreements together with employee representatives such as unions and a works council.

Summary of choices in the new pension

You make a number of choices for the new pension.

  • Option 1: solidary contribution scheme or flexible contribution scheme

You can choose between a solidary or a flexible contribution scheme. In the case of a solidary contribution scheme there is a joint pension pot and the risks are shared. In the case of a flexible contribution scheme, the employee has their own pension pot and chooses an investment profile.

  • Option 3: the percentage for the partner’s pension

The partner’s pension is the pension the partner receives after the death of an employee. The partner’s pension is currently still linked to the employee’s retirement pension. Under the new pension, the partner will receive a percentage of the last pensionable salary if your employee has not yet retired. You, the employer, choose that percentage.

  • Option 4: transition or no transition

Transition is the conversion of accrued pensions into the new pension. By default, all pensions are converted into the new pension. You can only deviate from this if transition will turn out very badly for a group of employees.
